3. Course contents *

In this course, the following topics on diagnosis & intervention in patients with respiratory conditions are discussed:

  • lung function testing and demonstration (spirometry, body plethysmography, diffusion capacity)
  • interpretation of blood gas values in the acute and chronic respiratory patient
  • radiology of the thorax
  • auscultation in diagnosis and use of auscultation in clearance of secretions
  • pathophysiology and cognitive processes in the aetiology of dyspnea
  • respiratory muscle training
  • exercise training in patients with mild to moderate obstructive lung disease
  • exercise training in chronic respiratory failure
  • exercise training in restrictive lung disease
  • oxygen therapy
  • smoking cessation

Further, respiratory physiotherapy in the following specific patient groups is taught:

  • tetraplegia
  • neuromuscular disease
  • hyperventilation syndromeand dysfunctional breathing
  • lung transplantation
