Institute of Development Policy

Life after IOB

Alumni policy starts before graduation. The ‘Life after IOB’ trajectory wants to prepare students during their Master for the opportunities and challenges after graduation.

The ‘Life after IOB’ trajectory consists out of a general information session and some more specific (skill) workshops and events open to all students (optional):

A general information session: In this session, students get some information about interesting opportunities on 'Life after IOB'. In this introductory session, some information will be provided on PhD opportunities, internships, vacancies, consultancy, training programmes…

Workshops: several workshops are organised to facilitate students’ transition back to their previous job or alternatively to a new job, new sector, a PhD, ...:

  • workshop CV screening
  • workshop on how to write a good PhD proposal
  • workshop on how to make a professional LinkedIn profile

Additionally, IOB also wants to offer students the opportunity to get acquainted with different instruments to share what they have studied at IOB:

  • workshop on how to make a video
  • workshop on how to write a policy brief
  • workshop data visualisation
  • videos are made of the top three students’ dissertation research

And finally, also activities are organised to broaden the students’ professional networks:

  • visit to the European Development Days
  • Alumni in Action talks = lunch seminars where alumni share experiences and advice from their professional sector
  • Internship: IOB actively brokers to link recent graduates to some of IOB’s institutional contacts
  • IOB community network (network event for IOB staff, students, alumni and partners)
