The Antwerp Centre for Continental Animal Law welcomes visiting researchers from both within and outside of Europe who are working on topics related to animals and the law, and who are interested in exploring how the civil law tradition conceptualises and addresses animals.
We offer two types of visiting stays:
Short-Term Visits
Short-term visits (up to one month) are open to researchers seeking to engage with the Centre's work over a limited period. We offer limited financial support of up to €1,000 per person to help cover travel and accommodation costs. These visits are particularly suited for those wishing to present their work, receive feedback, and connect with the Centre’s academic community.
Long-Term Stays
Long-term stays (more than one month) are designed for researchers seeking a more extended period of research and collaboration. While the Centre does not provide funding for these stays, we are happy to assist prospective visitors in identifying and applying for external funding opportunities.
For researchers from the Global South, specific funding options are available, such as VLIR-UOS.
What We Offer
All visiting researchers at the Centre will have access to:
- Presentation opportunities: Visitors are invited to present their work at the University of Antwerp and in online formats hosted by the Centre.
- Academic exchange: Visitors can collaborate with Centre staff and members of the broader research group Personal and Property Rights, and receive structured feedback on their work.
- Workspace and research environment: Visitors are provided with a flex-desk and are welcomed into a stimulating academic environment focused on advancing animal law in the civil law tradition.
Eligibility
Applicants must be affiliated with a university, either as a PhD candidate, postdoctoral researcher, lecturer, or equivalent. We particularly welcome scholars working on conceptual, doctrinal, or comparative questions related to the legal status of animals in civil law systems.
