Global Engagement calls

The University of Antwerp, in line with its philosophy of active pluralism, encourages its students and staff to organize events that aim to sensitize, inspire, inform and train the UAntwerp community with regard to Global Engagement, dialogue, inclusion, and foster global citizenship

We encourage proposals that bridge gaps between different perspectives and worldviews, and that enhance genuine debate, critical-constructive discussion and dialogue.

The Global Minds project provides funding for different opportunities for financing for students and staff and support of a variety of initiatives on the UAntwerp campuses:

The Research Foundation in Flanders (FWO) Funding

The FWO supports excellent research by fostering international collaboration and offering a wide range of funding opportunities for researchers at all career stages. Through its mobility and fellowship programmes, the FWO enables talented scholars from around the world to carry out research in Flanders, while also supporting Flemish-affiliated researchers in developing strong scientific partnerships outside Europe.

Incoming mobility for researchers & outgoing mobility from Flanders

Incoming Mobility for International Researchers

FWO provides several instruments that allow foreign PhD candidates and researchers to conduct research at universities and research institutes in Flanders. These include:

  • PhD fellowships for international candidates, offering long-term funding to pursue doctoral research under supervision at a Flemish host institution.
  • Postdoctoral fellowships that support promising early-career researchers wishing to further develop their expertise within the Flemish research landscape.
  • Research projects with international team members, enabling foreign researchers to participate in high-quality, collaborative research led by Flemish principal investigators.
  • Short- and long-term research stays, allowing international postdocs to spend time in Flanders for specialised training, joint research activities, or knowledge exchange.

Outgoing Mobility from Flanders

To stimulate global engagement and foster strong scientific networks, FWO supports the internationalisation of Flemish research by offering funding for mobility beyond Europe. These programmes include:

  • Travel and stay grants for Flemish-affiliated PhD students and researchers undertaking research stays, fieldwork, or training at institutions outside Europe.
  • Longer-term research stays that allow researchers to work intensively with international partners and strengthen global scientific collaboration.
