Several of the techniques that our present in our research have the need for or can benefit from a specific type of sample preperation. For example scanning electron microscopy under high vacuum requires that the sample is conductive. All non-conductive samples therefor need to be coated or sputtered with conductive material. Techniques that can work in transmission require cross-sections in the micrometer range, which can be achieved by microtomy.
