In January 2026, AIPRIL and CHANGE co-organised a workshop at the University of Antwerp on “Changing work, changing incomes: assessing the vulnerability of non-standard workers and self-employed.”
The workshop explored how changing forms of work shape earnings, income stability, and access to social protection. Particular attention was given to the growing group of non-standard workers, including the self-employed, temporary and part-time workers, and those in emerging or hybrid work arrangements.
Bringing together scholars from different disciplines, the workshop examined patterns of vulnerability, the adequacy and responsiveness of welfare systems, and the conceptual and empirical challenges involved in studying income and living standards in a changing labour market.
