Design <> Research. Reflecting on Research Design and Design Research approaches

Workshop with Prof. Dr. Carola Ebert

Wed 22.04.2026 - 09:30-12:30

This half-day workshop for A+I PhD candidates uses the two lenses of research design and design research as a tool to reflect on the different ways in which the perspectives, products and practices of architecture and interior architecture can situate, inform and shape PhD research, procedures and findings.

Program:

_ Welcome / Introduction(s);

_ Input "Research Design and Design Research";

_ Presentations, Feedback and Discussion;

_ Closing Round.

Interested PhD candidates are requested to prepare a 7-minute presentation of the current status of their PhD research project with a specific focus on these three questions:

_ What is particularly "interior" or "architectural" about your PhD research project, how would you describe this aspect, and why does it matter?

_ What role do the products of architecture or interior architecture play in your PhD research: which ones does it address and of what kind are they?

_To what extent and in which way do your own research methodology and/or specific research activities make use of interior or architectural practices like thinking through visuals, design processes, or creative reflective practice?
