Next to synchrotron facility end-stations around the world, the group members employ a wide range of versatile commercial and home-built instruments in the AXES laboratories. This  equipment is accesible to third parties as well, as discussed in the service section.

X-ray based

  • Keymaster Tracer III-V: a handheld X-Ray Fluorescence spectrometer
  • Philips minipal: a bench top X-Ray Fluorescence spectrometer equipped with a sample caroussel
  • Panalytical Epsilon 5: a stationary X-Ray Fluorescence spectrometer dedicated to environmental analysis 
  • AXIL scanner: an in-house built mobile Macro X-Ray Fluorescence (MA-XRF) scanner, dedicated to the analysis of paintings
  • MOXTEC scanner: an experimental micro X-Ray Fluorescence setup for chemometric applications
  • XRD scanner: a home-made micro X-Ray Diffraction scanner for cultural heritage purposes


Electron microscopy

  • JEOL 6300: a Scanning Electron Microscope with Energy Dispersive X-ray spectrometry (SEM-EDX)
  • FEI Quanta 250 FEG ESEM-WDX: an Environmental Scanning Electron Microscope with Wavelength Dispersive X-ray spectrometry

Vibrational spectroscopy

  • MA-rFTIR scanner: a home-built mobile Macro Reflectance Fourier Transformed Infrared scanner dedictated to the analysis of cultural heritage
  • Renishaw InVia:  a dual laser Raman microscope

Mass spectrometry

  • LA-ICPMS:  an Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometer equipped with an NWR Laser ablation system
