
Federica Baldan is a legal and policy officer at the Directorate General for Research and Innovation of the European Commission.
Before joining the European Commission in 2021, Federica worked as a postdoctoral researcher (2019-2021) and PhD researcher (2014-2018) at the University of Antwerp. Her research focused on IP law and governance. She carried out comparative analysis of the European, US, and Japanese patent systems during research stays at the Centre for Information Justice and IP of American University Washington College of Law (2018) and at the Institute for Intellectual Property in Tokyo (2016-2017). Her PhD thesis was published by Edward Elgar in 2022.
Previously, Federica worked as an IP lawyer in a law firm based in Bologna, Italy. She was admitted to the Italian Bar in 2013.
Federica holds a PhD in Law from the University of Antwerp, an LL.M. in International and European Law from the Institute of European Studies of Brussels, and a bachelor's and master’s degree from the University of Bologna.
