Pieter Mertens is a graduate of law in the Master's programme from the University of Antwerp. His thesis (title: 'privacy en bestuurlijke handhaving') was awarded with "de prijs professor William Lambrechts, 2022 - 2023", a prize in environmental matters. Also during his studies, he, together with Eva Devlieghere and Charlotte Verstreken, was part of the UAntwerp team that won the 'Moot Court Constitutional Law 2022 - 2023' (under the expert supervision and direction of prof. dr. C. Jenart and mr. B. Claes). In September 2023, he started as a junior-lawyer in the law firm Schoups, in the Environmental Law Department. Prior to this, he studied for a semester at Charles University in Prague (Czech Republic).
