About ExpORL

The group’s research spans five key areas: hearing, speech & language, deglutology, rhinology, and neuromodulation. Hearing research focuses on auditory and cognitive processing across the lifespan, using behavioral and objective methods (e.g. EEG of speech, ASSR, deep learning). Key topics include auditory prosthesis optimization (e.g. cochlear implants with neuro-steered strategies), inner ear mechanics and optics, otogenetics, screening and diagnostics (e.g. speech materials), and rehabilitation. The group plays a leading role in cochlear implant research in both children and adults, with strong emphasis on societal impact (e.g. hearing screening) and valorisation (e.g. ALICE), as well as work on vestibular implants.
