Civil Society and Urban Governance

Workshop held at Leicester on 29-30 April 2015, co-organised by the Centre for Urban History at UAntwerp.

Call for papers

The Centres for Urban History at Leicester and Antwerp invite proposals for papers for a workshop on 'Civil Society and Urban Governance'. The workshop will be held at Leicester on 29/30 April 2015.

We are especially interested in papers that propose new ways of conceptualising governance and power in the urban context, including those concerned with ideas of governmentality, technology and materiality.

Papers may focus on any part of Europe and its colonies since 1500. The workshop is designed to reflect new approaches to the study of power and the city and is organised as part of the Urban Agency network. It is anticipated that a number of the papers will be selected as contributions to a volume of The New Urban History of Europe.

Proposals of max. 300 words should be submitted to Simon Gunn (University of Leicester) or Rosemary Sweet (University of Leicester) by 30 September 2014.
