In this interactive summer school, researchers and professionals develop the skills to produce clear, accurate, and impactful English scientific or academic texts.

You explore core aspects of effective academic writing, including text structure, appropriate phrasing, and the features of contemporary academic style.

A key component of the course is the smart and responsible use of generative AI as a writing support tool. You learn practical strategies for integrating GenAI into your workflow to strengthen clarity, coherence, and precision, while maintaining full authorship and academic integrity.

Alongside group lessons, you receive personalised feedback on your own written work.

You also extend your communication skills to other formats and audiences through sessions on giving clear and engaging presentations and on communicating your research findings to a broad audience.

The skills developed in this summer school will enable you to continue improving your academic writing independently.

Target group

This course welcomes all researchers and professionals who need to write scientific or academic texts in English. Participants need to have B2 English proficiency level or higher (according to the Common European Framework of Reference). To demonstrate this, you may upload a certificate confirming your English proficiency. If you do not have such a certificate, you will receive an email with a link to our online test. Once your level has been confirmed, your application can be considered (not applicable to YUFE students).

Campus

This summer school takes place at Stadscampus (Prinsstraat 13, 2000 Antwerp) of the University of Antwerp. This campus is located in the city centre.

Micro-credential and study credits (ECTS)

Successful completion of the summer school can be awarded with 3 credits according to the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). Credits will be awarded by the University of Antwerp on the basis of (active) participation during the course (30 contact hours) and the submission of all writing assignments. Larger assignments can be handed in until one month after the course has ended. In order to pass, you are expected to attend and participate in all classes, complete all exercises and submit all required versions of your writing assignments. Your writing assignments must show you have implemented the course content and the personalised teacher feedback and advice.

To include the credits in the curriculum at the home institution, participants need an agreement with the responsible person at their university. University of Antwerp students eligible to include the ECTS credits as part of their study programme must register via Mobility Online and SisA.

All certificates of completion are issued as a micro-credential. Participants who attend at least 90% of the classes but don't complete or pass the writing assignments will receive a certificate of attendance (without ECTS credits).
