About Christa Sys

Christa Sys is a professor at the Department of Transport and Regional Economics at the University of Antwerp. She holds the BNP Paribas Fortis Chair and supports the Dennie Lockefeer Chair on intermodal transport. She teaches maritime related courses at C MAT and at the Faculty of Business and Economics. Her research focuses on waterborne transport. She earned a joint doctoral degree in 2010 from Ghent University and the University of Antwerp. In 2024, she was awarded the title of Commander in the Order of the Crown, and in 2025 she received the industry’s title of “Multimodal Ambassador.
