My research is situated in the Demer Valley, where I investigate the ecological effects of reconnecting meanders as part of the Sigmaplan. In addition to monitoring biodiversity in the river and valley, I also investigate the effects of restoration measures on water quality and hydro- and morphodynamics. Within the biodiversity section, I focus on fish, macroinvertebrates, aquatic and riparian vegetation, and ground beetles. In the hydro- and morphodynamics section I determine based on: LIDAR, bathymetry, and discharge, changes in erosion, sedimentation, and flow velocity patterns over time.
