Federica Baldan is a postdoctoral researcher in IP law and governance at the Faculty of Law and is a member of the Government and Law Research Group.

Federica received her PhD in Law at the University of Antwerp (2019). Her doctoral research focused on judicial governance in the European, US and Japanese patent systems. She carried out her comparative analysis during research stays at the Centre for Information Justice and IP of American University Washington College of Law (2018) and at the Institute for Intellectual Property in Tokyo (2016-2017).

Previously, Federica worked as an IP lawyer in a law firm based in Bologna, Italy. She was admitted to the Italian Bar in 2013. She also gained experience at the European Commission Directorate-General for Financial Stability, Financial Services and Capital Markets Union (2018-2019).

Federica holds an LL.M. in International and European Law from the Institute of European Studies of Brussels (2014, magna cum laude). She completed the program with a dissertation entitled “Reverse-payment patent settlements in the pharmaceutical industry: a comparative analysis of the EU and US approaches” for which she received the outstanding master thesis award. She also holds a bachelor's and a master’s degree from the University of Bologna, Italy and participated in the Erasmus exchange program at the University of Ireland, Galway.
