Quality assurance

At the University of Antwerp we ensure the quality of our programmes. Every programme goes through a six-year quality assurance cycle.

In year three, we review the quality assurance of the programme during the internal process monitoring and control. In autumn 2021 this was done for the Advanced Master of Maritime and Air Transport Management.

A peer review in year six concludes the cycle. The study programme conducts a self-reflection and has discussions with internal and external experts and with an independent student.

On 29 and 30 April 2025 the peer review team visited the Advanced Master of Maritime and Air Transport Management and decided to confirm its confidence in the programme.

Conclusions of the peer review team

The programme is praised for its honest and open communication culture, fostering continuous improvement through active dialogue among staff, students, and alumni. Its specialised tracks in air and maritime management, combined with strong industry ties, significantly enhance employability and networking opportunities. Lecturers are recognised for their passion and expertise. The curriculum effectively balances academic rigour with practical relevance through company visits, guest lectures, and in-company projects. The strong link between research and education exposes students to cutting-edge developments and encourages critical engagement with emerging trends. The dual focus on air and maritime transport from a broad perspective offers a comprehensive sector overview. Interactive teaching cultivates intercultural, communication, and leadership skills. The diverse international student body enriches the learning experience, supported by well-organised recruitment and onboarding, student support and monitoring of group dynamics. The collaboration between the University of Antwerp and Antwerp Management School further strengthens the programme’s academic and professional orientation.

To build on these strengths, the programme will define a clear brand identity aligned with its ambitions. Alumni engagement will be expanded through structured activities and a revitalised network. A formal sounding board with alumni, industry and faculty members will enhance curriculum relevance, in-company projects, trend monitoring and visibility of the programme. Admission procedures, especially regarding English proficiency, will be refined, and diversity among staff, guest lecturers and the sounding board will be monitored. Improvements to the structure and communication of the research track and transparency about the consequences of peer assessment are planned, alongside targeted international recruitment campaigns supported by alumni testimonials. Transparency about the consequences of peer assessment in group work will be strengthened.
