Research

Within the framework of the Chair, experts from the academic world examine how modern customs enforcement can contribute to legal certainty and to efficient and fair sanctioning in line with current European standards and fundamental safeguards. The researchers rely on in-depth legal analyses, comparative studies with other EU Member States, and the insights of practitioners. The research results may contribute to the development of concrete proposals to modernize and reform existing legislation.

The research is carried out by Eric Van Dooren (senior lecturer), Ward Lietaert (coordinator of customs training at the University of Antwerp), and Erhard Vermeulen (unpaid associate). All of them have professional experience in customs law
