Global Engagement Travel Grant

We are actively working to establish a Global Engagement Travel Grant to support researchers with a primary affiliation in the Global South. We believe diversity of perspectives makes for better cichlid science.

While funding (and the funding structure) is still being finalised, we intend for grants to cover visa costs, flights, accommodation, and conference registration. We are working to make this possible for as many eligible researchers as we can, and will confirm full details as soon as they are available.

In the meantime, we encourage eligible researchers to express interest via the form below. Expressing interest does not obligate you to attend Cichlid Science 2026, and researchers from the Global South will be entitled to a full refund if visa or funding constraints make attendance impossible.

For any questions, feel free to contact us.

Eligibility

This grant is open to researchers with a primary affiliation at an institution in a Global South country. The Global South refers to countries in Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, Asia, and Oceania that are classified as low- and middle-income economies (following World Bank classifications). We will ask for a 500 word motivation as to how attending Cichlid Science 2026 would support your research, professional development, and/or broader scientific goals. If you are unsure whether you are eligible, please discuss with us.
