During the Day of Sociology this year, the Flemish Sociology Thesis Award will be presented for the first time. The award acknowledges a master's thesis in sociology that made a significant contribution to sociological research during the previous academic year (2024-2025).
The award ceremony will take place on May 26, 2026, during Sociology Day in Antwerp.
With this award, we wish to acknowledge excellent, high-quality sociological research at the master's level. The laureate will receive a cash prize of €1,000 and additional visibility within the sociological field.
Who is eligible?
Any student who completed their Master's in Sociology at one of the Flemish universities in the academic year preceding the Day of Sociology is eligible. Candidates must have graduated in the academic year 2024-2025 and passed all courses, including the master's thesis. The master's thesis may be written in Dutch or English.
Participation and procedure
The application consists of the following documents:
an abstract of the master's thesis (max. 500 words);
the results obtained for the final thesis, including the name of the supervisor(s) involved;
a letter of recommendation from the supervisor, explaining why the thesis is eligible for this award (max. 200 words);
a digital version of the complete master's thesis, written in Dutch or English.
