Facilitating communication between staff members and university leadership
Linguini helps keep BAP/AAP members in the Linguistics Department connected with university leadership. Through our monthly (beautifully formatted and linguine-themed) newsletter, we share updates and make sure everyone stays in the loop. We also represent BAP/AAP interests in the Departmental Council, passing along relevant news and updates that affect our community.
We gather input from BAP/AAP members on topics ranging from workplace arrangements to academic policies. We use clear communication channels to address concerns, share news, and get feedback. Look out for e-mails from our Linguini e-mail address, and join the WhatsApp group (in your latest newsletter) to stay in the loop!
If you don't receive any emails from Linguini and you would like to, don't hesitate to contact us, we will happily include you in our mailing list.
Organizing social events that build connections among Linguistics colleagues
We believe in staying connected beyond work, so we organize regular casual hangouts like monthly afterwork drinks and seasonal outings, such as trips to Antwerp's Christmas market. To keep things lively day-to-day, we’ve got a birthday calendar and share updates and celebrations through our newsletter.
For spur-of-the-moment plans, there’s a WhatsApp group where anyone can invite others for a quick coffee or after-work drinks. Check the latest newsletter for an invite to the group! We also make a point to celebrate big milestones, like PhD defenses, as a group.
Throughout the year, we keep things fun and chill with activities like board game nights or walks in Rivierenhof park. It’s all about creating easygoing ways for colleagues to connect and make our academic community feel a bit more personal and welcoming.
Find all past and upcoming events in our Events tab!
Facilitating research-focused activities specifically for BAP/AAP members in our department
We focus on offering practical support for research and professional growth. This includes regular writing sessions and workshops designed for PhD students and postdocs in Linguistics, helping to stay productive while balancing work and life. We also connect current researchers in Linguistics with alumni to share insights about career paths inside and outside academia. These efforts aim to create a supportive space where early-career linguists can grow and develop their skills. All our activities are shaped by feedback from the community to ensure they’re relevant and helpful.
Our efforts complement the faculty-wide research support, currently coordinated by Géraldine De Visscher.
