The PAX 2.0 (Private International Law in Motion 2.0) was a specialized research project funded by the European Union’s Justice Programme (2021–2027). It had been set up as a follow-up to the PAX Project (2020–2022) and the JUDGTRUST Project (2018–2020).

The PAX 2.0 had a twofold objective:

  • raising awareness about the EU private international law among students and the educational community through the organisation of the PAX Moot Court, and

  • providing training in EU private international law for the judiciary in the framework of the PAX Judicial Training.

The first edition of the EU-sponsored PAX Moot Court took place in the academic year 2018/2019 as part of the JUDGTRUST Project. Over the years, the PAX Moot Court grew, as interest in the competition rose far beyond the European Union’s borders. Its growth was, in significant part, made possible by the EU-funded PAX Project (2020–2022), which enabled the organisation of the 2021 and 2022 editions. The PAX community came to include a larger group of students, legal professionals, and academics from a wide array of universities.

The PAX Project (2020–2022) also enabled the launch of PAX Judicial Trainings. Two such trainings took place in 2022 in Ljubljana and in Barcelona.

The new PAX 2.0 sought to build further upon these achievements. It hoped to ensure a correct and consistent application of the EU private international law and to contribute to ongoing judicial training programmes on civil judicial cooperation in the EU (for instance, in cooperation with the EJTN and in support of other judicial networks).

A consortium of 7 institutions conducted the PAX 2.0:

  • University of Antwerp, Belgium (coordinator)

  • Asser Institute, the Netherlands

  • Maastricht University, the Netherlands

  • Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”, Bulgaria

  • Université Paris Dauphine, France

  • University of Barcelona, Spain

  • University of Ljubljana, Slovenia
