Science Shop for organisations

The Antwerp Science Shop is a service provided by the University of Antwerp. Non-profit organisations can use this service to access scientific support in the form of research or advice. In turn, their questions generate opportunities for socially relevant dissertation research.

Antwerp comes second in the International Science Shop Prize 2012

The International Prize is a biennial award for the best student-led research project carried out for a social organisation through the Science Shop. This year, second prize was awarded to the Master dissertation of Sara De Bruyn, a University of Antwerp graduate in Sociology. Her dissertation, entitled “Hiv en disclosure aan partners - Onderzoek naar het disclosureproces aan partners van Vlaamse homo- en biseksuele mannen met hiv", addressed three key taboos: HIV, homosexuality and disclosure (telling others that you are HIV positive). The Jury praised the social relevance of this topic as well as the clear and useful results produced by Sara's research. They also appreciated the fact that Sara had succeeded in convincing HIV positive people to share their experiences of such a taboo area. Sara's research was commissioned by Sensoa and supervised by Professor Edwin Wouters and the Antwerp Science Shop.

This year, the prize was awarded during the Flemish & Dutch Science Shop 'inspiration days', organised by the Vrije Universiteit Brussel and the University of Antwerp.
