Date: Friday, 15th December 2023, 9:00 – 13:00
Venue: Campus Drie Eiken, O building, Room 04 (D.O.04)

The field of Cell, Gene, and Tissue Engineering is growing fast on a fundamental, translational, and clinical level, with many technologies to choose from and many exciting applications. It is also one of the most promising future (pre)clinical options in the (bio)medical arsenal for the treatment of patients with a multitude of different conditions.
The 1st U Antwerp’s Research Day on Cell, Gene, and Tissue Engineering aims to highlight some of the work performed in this field at our university. We also aim to foster collaborations between researchers from UAntwerp (PhD students, postdocs, and supervisors) working on different topics related to this field.

Program:

9:00       Welcome by Prof. Eva Lion
9:10       Using CRISPR/Cas9 to create iPSC-derived disease models for cardiac arrhythmia. Prof. Maaike Alaerts (Center for Medical Genetics)
9:30       In vitro gametogenesis, a game changer for fertility preservation in human, livestock and endangered species. Prof. Ruth Appeltant (Gamete Research Centre)
9:50       Gene therapy to cure deafness in DFNA9. Lize Sels (Translational Neurosciences)
10:10     Pragmatic tissue design to develop superior biological grafts to solve corneal blindness. Dr. Bert Van den Bogerd (Antwerp Research Group for Ocular Science)

10:30     Coffee break

11:00     RNA-based engineering of therapeutic cells for cancer immunotherapy. Dr. Diana Campillo-Davó (Laboratory of Experimental Hematology)
11:20     IL-15-secreting CAR natural killer cells directed towards CD70 eliminate both cancer cells and cancer-associated fibroblasts. Astrid Van den Eynde (Center for Oncological Research)
11:50     Genetic engineering of NK cells overcomes hypoxia-induced dysfunction. Dr. Jorrit De Waele (Center for Oncological Research)
12:10     Development of BDNF overexpressing Tregs to induce remyelination in multiple sclerosis. Jasper Van den Bos (Laboratory of Experimental Hematology)
