Crab communication is catching on

The INTERREG project Clancy has won awards for its communication efforts. In Clancy, the innovative trap concept developed by VMM and the University of Antwerp for managing invasive Chinese mitten crabs is now being rolled out across Europe. Communication plays a crucial role in this project, as many people regularly come into contact with the crabs — from fishermen and waterway managers to residents living near rivers.

The project has received two awards within the entire INTERREG North Sea programme: one for best communication with a video, and another for most creative photo. Communication within the project is coordinated by the Alfred Wegener Institute in Bremen, where the videos were also filmed.
