On the 12th of June, we had the pleasure of hosting Prof. Guntram Grassl from the Hannover Medical School at LMM. Prof. Grassl is a leading expert in host-pathogen interactions, with a particular focus on enteropathogenic bacteria such as Salmonella.

During his visit, Prof. Grassl delivered an engaging seminar titled "Unraveling Salmonella's Epithelial Invasion Strategies", where he shared his latest findings on how Salmonella interacts with host epithelial cells and microbiota. His work offers valuable insights into the mechanisms of bacterial invasion and pathogenesis.

Following the seminar, LMM researchers specialising in Salmonella genomics and antimicrobial resistance engaged in a scientific exchange with Prof. Grassl. The discussions highlighted complementary expertise and research gaps in the context of invasive non-typhoidal Salmonella (iNTS) disease and the evolution of S. Typhimurium ST313 on the genomic as well as the host-pathogen level. The visit was concluded with a delightful lunch, allowing us to continue conversations and reflect on our shared research interests.

We thank Prof. Grassl for his visit and look forward to future interactions that advance our understanding of iNTS.
