The Learner Language Network (LeLaN) brings together a diverse team of experts from various research groups and departments at the University of Antwerp, including GaP, CliPS, TriCs, Didactica, and the Department of Management. Our network is dedicated to advancing understanding in the fields of language acquisition and processing, encompassing mainly second/foreign language but also first language acquisition.
LeLaN research spans several key areas:

- Learner corpus compilation and empirical L2 analysis
- Analysis of cross-sectional and longitudinal L2 performance data
- Software tool development for the analysis and annotation of learner data
Second Language Acquisition (SLA)
- Study of individual learner variables (e.g. L2 motivation, anxiety, grit, L2 exposure,…) and their impact on L2 performance
- Longitudinal studies of L2 language development
- Experimental studies using miniature languages
AI-Assisted language learning and development
- Integration of artificial intelligence to develop teaching methodologies and materials that enhance language learning
- How do learners implement AI-generated changes into their L2 productions?
- AI-assisted writing and translation pedagogy
Pedagogical linguistics and language learning for specific purposes
- Development of effective Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) classrooms
- Teacher professionalisation
- Learner individual variables (e.g. L2 anxiety) and their impact on the language learning process
Writing processes (keystroke logging)
- Analysis of L1 and L2 writing processes
- Use of sources in L1/L2/Ln writing
- Online writing processes in professional organisations via keystroke logging,
