Methodological Approaches in Media Accessibility Research
The 1st OPEN Research Network Symposium will be held on June 7th, 2024 at the University of Antwerp, Belgium. The Symposium is aimed at MA students, PhD students and postdocs specialising in Media Accessibility. The theme of this first edition is Methodological Approaches to Media Accessibility, either quantitative, qualitative or mixed methods, and their application to media accessibility services such as, but not limited to:
- SDH and live subtitles
- audio description, audio subtitles and audio introduction
- sign language interpreting
- digital accessibility
- easy language
- accessible filmmaking
- touch tours
This one-day symposium aims to provide a scientific forum to exchange ideas and mutual feedback, with opportunities for discussions over lunch and dinner. For this first edition, we will have a keynote speaker from the TricS (Translation, Interpreting and Intercultural Studies) research group. The symposium invites proposals for short oral presentations relating to the research interests of the OPEN Research Network, namely:
- User-centred studies in MA
- Corpus linguistics in MA
- Systematic literature reviews in MA
- Experimental and quasi-experimental studies in MA
- Thematic analysis in MA
- (Critical) discourse analysis in MA
- Research-creation in MA
- Participatory action research in MA
- Process-oriented research in MA
- Context-oriented research in MA
- Multimodal analysis in MA
- New methodologies in MA
- Supported methodologies in MA
How to apply
Please submit an abstract of max. 300 words using this MS form by March 22. Accepted proposals will be notified by the end of April. All accepted speakers are expected to attend the Symposium in person (there is no registration fee for this event).
