CityLAB

Every year in July, the Urban Studies Institute organises the international and interdisciplinary summer school CityLAB, which each edition highlights a different theme within urban studies. The aim is to develop a varied and integrated educational programme for master students, young scholars and professionals working in the broader field of urban studies. In 2026, the theme is Age-Friendly Cities. Health, sustainability and the aesthetic imagination have featured in past editions.

The Sustainable City

In collaboration with IMDO, USI organises the summer school The Sustainable City. This summer school investigates how cities can become sustainable through new technologies and adapted urban planning, without losing sight of the socio-economic implications and political context. Taking an integrated perspective on sustainability, the summer school bridges natural sciences, urban technology, social sciences and humanities and offers insights from both academic and non-academic expertise.
