Expertise
I work as a postdoctoral researcher on the theme of AI, Media, and Society at the Antwerp Media in Society Centre. I am interested in how complex, emerging technologies (such as artificial intelligence or blockchain) acquire meaning in society. What kinds of problems are technologies believed to help solve? And which social values underpin these ideas? My work focuses in particular on technological applications aimed at collecting, organizing, and making knowledge about nature, ecosystems, and the climate accessible, with the intention of contributing to sustainability, biodiversity, or climate adaptation. I was trained in Media Studies at the University of Amsterdam and obtained my PhD in Media Studies (on the topic of Blockchain Imaginaries) from Utrecht University. I previously worked as a researcher at the Institute of Network Cultures and currently combine my appointment at the University of Antwerp with a research position in the Visual Methodologies research group at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences. There, I work on Slow AI, a project that investigates decolonial approaches to AI through participatory, creative, and artistic methods.
