Yentl is Environmental Officer at Indaver

“In class, I learned how Indaver strives for a sustainable and circular industry. My interest was sparked!”

  • Yentl Vanden Bergh
  • Bachelor in Biomedical Sciences (University of Antwerp, not completed)
  • Bachelor in Biology (University of Antwerp, 2022)
  • Master in Biology: Global Change Biology (University of Antwerp, 2024)
  • Environmental Officer at Indaver, a sustainable waste management company

Why did you decide to study Biology?

I always found biology/natural sciences the most interesting subjects at school. I first studied Biomedical Sciences for two years, but soon realized I missed learning about broader topics such as nature and the environment. That’s why I switched to Biology.

You just started your first job at Indaver. What do you do there?

Indaver is a company specialized in sustainable waste management and energy production. I work as an Environmental Officer. This means I mainly prepare notifications and reports for the government in the context of environmental legislation. This includes everything that needs to be monitored regarding emissions across the different sites in Belgium. In addition, I currently support the environmental coordinators at various sites. This allows me to learn a lot about the company and makes it easier for me to pursue additional training to become an environmental coordinator in the future.

How did you end up in this job?

During the course “Coping with Global Change,” we saw examples from Indaver NV, where they strive for a sustainable and circular industry, such as a heat network, the Ecluse steam network, Plastics2Chemicals, etc. My interest in the company was sparked! After my studies, there was a vacancy in the environmental department, and after a successful application, I was able to start working there.
