Application procedure in 4 steps

  1. Register in Mobility Online (for year: choose 2022-2023 in summer schools)
  2. Fill in personal details and complete requested extra questions
  3. Wait for approval of your application
  4. Pay the participation fee within 10 days after approval to secure your spot

Applications can be submitted by filling in the online registration form via Mobility Online before 1 February (early bird) or 1 May 2022 (regular). After having registered, you will automatically receive an email with further guidelines to complete your application.

Upon successful submission you will receive an automatic reply to confirm your application. In case your application is accepted, you will receive an email with more practical information on payment and visa. Please note that, in case you need an invoice, you should ask for the invoice before paying. Note that your subscription is only valid when the participation fee is received by the summer school’s secretariat.

Accepted students will be registered as regular students of the University of Antwerp and will hence receive a student account allowing them to have access to the catering facilities and the Wi-Fi network of the University of Antwerp. Furthermore, accepted students will be automatically insured under the policy of the University of Antwerp. 

Note that limited places are available for the summer school and for each strand. We will ask participants to list their preferred thematic strands and will divide slots on a first-come, first-served basis. 

Registration fee 

Early bird fee (before 1 February 2022): 450 euro / Regular fee: 500 euro

University of Antwerp students are entitled to a refund of €150

The registration fee covers participation in the full programme. 

ECTS credits 

3-6 ECTS credits can be awarded upon successful completion of the programme (including all assessment tasks).

To earn 3 ECTS students are required to attend the full summer school and submit preparatory tasks for the workshops. 

To earn 6 ECTS students are required to attend the full summer school, submit preparatory tasks for the workshops and complete a 4000-word paper on a topic related to one or several of the thematic strands. All students who want to earn 6 ECTS have to submit an application with motivation when they register for the summer school, as well as a paper topic. Applications will be accepted or rejected on the basis of the quality of the proposals.

Disclaimer - Cancellation

Cancellation by the organiser 

Should the summer school be cancelled by the organiser for organisational reasons or as a result of force majeure more than two weeks after the application deadline, the organiser will refund the registration fee. Claims for further liabilities or damages are excluded. 

 Cancellation by the participant 

If the participant cancels more than 4 weeks before the start of the summer school, 50% of the registration fee can be reimbursed. If the participant cancels within 4 weeks before the start of the summer school, € 100 of the registration fee will be refunded, unless otherwise mentioned on the website of the specific summer school. This will also be so in case of changing travel regulations and/or in case of a positive test for covid-19 before or during the summer school. All refunds are made in euros. The organisation cannot refund any shortfalls due to exchange rate fluctuations or bank charges. 

Scholarships

Scholarship for University of Antwerp Students

Two types of scholarships are available for students who are currently enrolled as regular students of the University of Antwerp. 

  1. Refund of €150/student after attending a summer or winter school organised at Antwerp Summer and Winter University. Students should prefinance the full registration fee and can claim a reimbursement of the allowance after submitting a certificate of attendance and proof of payment to the Antwerp Summer and Winter University Office. The following students qualify for this refund: University of Antwerp students regularly enrolled under a diploma contract in a Bachelor, Master, Advanced Master, Preparatory Programme, Bridging Programme or Academic Teaching Programme, in either academic year 2021-2022 or 2022-2023. 
  2. Scholarship for a short international experience for students who qualify for financial aid by the Department of Social, Cultural and Studentaffairs (SCS) .

Reduced fees for refugees residing in Belgium

Attending a summer or winter school is a low-threshold opportunity for refugees to get to know Flemish Higher Education. From summer 2018 onwards, a limited number of reduced registration fees (€50) for refugees is made available by University of Antwerp.

Admission requirements and eligibility

  • The admission requirements for refugees with foreign pre-qualifications are the same as those for all summer or winter school participants. Please note that each summer or winter school has its own specific admission requirements, including prior qualifications.
  • English is the language of instruction of all programmes within Antwerp Summer and Winter University. As active participation is compulsory in all summer and winter schools, English proficiency in reading, speaking and writing is  required.
  • In order to be eligible for a reduced registration fee, the candidate should belong to one of the following categories: asylum seeker / refugee status / subsidiary protection or a family member being reunited with a refugee.
  • Candidates should (have) complete(d) a study orientation plan at Atlas. Candidates who are/have already been enrolled at a Flemish Higher Education Institution are not eligible for this reduced fee. Contact information is available on this webpage.

Application

  • Applications can be submitted by filling in the online registration form via Mobility Online. Candidates have to fill in personal details, upload some documents and complete extra specific questions per summer or winter school.
     
  • Depending on the category, candidates for these reduced fees have to upload (a) different document(s):
    • asylum seekers
      Scan of Annex 26 (issued by the Immigration Office in Brussels)
    • recognised refugees:
      Scan both sides residence permit
    • a person receiving protection on humanitarian grounds (Dutch: subsidiair beschermde)
      Scan of the letter issued by the “office of the commissioner general for refugees and stateless persons”
    • a family member being reunited with a refugee
      Scan of both sides of the residence permit of your family member
      Proof of family composition.

Scholarships for international PhD students

We are offering three scholarships for PhD students who do not have funding to cover the registration fee (worth 500 euro each). The scholarships will cover registration and catering during the Children's Literature summer school. 

Applicants are requested to send their CV and a letter of motivation to childlit@uantwerpen.be before 15 December 2021. The letter should include the following information:

·       PhD title, the programme you are registered for, your supervisor and expected completion date

·       The thematic strand that you want to register for and how it relates to your research

·       Your motivation for attending this summer school (300 words)

·       An abstract for a 20-minute presentation on your PhD during the summer school (300 words)

·       Why should we support your participation? Have you had any opportunity to study or travel abroad before? Does your university or college provide financial support for education abroad (for example by providing travel grants to participate in summer schools)? Will you apply for other funding?

·       Contact details for 2 college or university teachers who would be willing to endorse your application.

We give priority to PhD students who have not participated in the Children’s Literature Summer School before. Selected participants will receive notice before 22 December 2021.
