A transformation in the food system is needed to sustainably feed the global population in the future. Production of microbial protein can be part of the solution. Purple non-sulfur bacteria form an interesing candidate, due to their high protein content and nutritional value. In this research, we will look at growth of these microbes in bioreactors using light as energy source, hydrogen gas as electron source and CO2 as carbon source, as well as their suitability as a food source.
