Fundamental biological research

The Bird Populations project tracks the same great and blue tits in nest boxes year after year. By keeping this consistently so, it becomes possible to observe long-term trends and/or changes. This basic biological research is needed to explain changes in bird populations and in their behaviour in relation to climate change or other environmental trends.

Database

The project currently has a huge database for more than 40 years to monitor the effects of climate change and how birds respond. The financial cost requires continuous long-term funding, while research resources are usually limited to a few years. Therefore, to continue the research, financial help is needed so that the same populations can be thoroughly monitored annually.
This research not only provides insight into the bird population but also enriches our knowledge about nature and the effect of humans on nature.
