Break the taboo around pevlic floor problems

Break the taboo around pevlic floor problems

Pelvic floor

What are pelvic floor problems?

Pelvic floor problems are very common. Many women suffer from these embarrassing problems during their lives. Figures speak for themselves: more than 50% of pregnant women have urine leakage during pregnancy; in one in three moms it remains a problem after pregnancy; one in eight experience feacal leakage after childbirth; and half of the women have a certain degree of pelvic organ prolapse. Pelvic floor problems are diverse, some women have complaints of urinary leakage, others from the difficulty in holding up gas, but also pain complaints and sexual problems are never "normal".

Online platform 'The pelvic floor'

Although these pelvic floor problems are common, there is still a large taboo to talk about them. A  multidisciplinary team of researchers from the University of Antwerp and the UZA wants to change that by launching the online platform 'The Pelvic Floor'.

The online platform consists of informative blogs, links to the right informative websites and compelling testimonials from women. The goal is to provide honest and accessible information, to raise awareness about these problems and break the taboo. By empowering women with qualitative education and insights, they aim to improve help-seaking behavior,  and improve the prevention and treatment of these problems.
