For people with scars, the path to recovery, from medical care to aftercare and rehabilitation, is often long and complex. This process is made extra challenging by factors such as physical changes, hormonal fluctuations, psychosocial impact and the influence of different life stages.
Experts at the University of Antwerp want to change this. With research into a patient-oriented and qualitative procedure that identifies all expected milestones. In doing so, attention will be paid to the specific needs of both children and adults, tailored to their unique stages of development and living environment.
With this study, we want to offer people with scars - and their parents, carers and care providers - clarity, guidance and certainty about the expected course of care and aftercare. Because good care starts with insight and understanding.
