Antwerp Tax Academy and the Faculty of Law of the University of Antwerp are very pleased to invite you to the Annual Congress of the European Association of Tax Law Professors (EATLP), to be held from
6 - 8 June 2024 in Antwerp (Belgium).
As EATLP was officially established on 10 June 1999, we are very honoured and grateful for the opportunity given to us to host the Congress in this silver jubilee year.
The Venue
The Congress will be held at the city campus of the University of Antwerp, nearby the central building of the University of Antwerp’s Stadscampus, better known as Hof van Liere.
The wonderful 16th century Hof van Liere and the adjacent historical premises, which were erected by the Society of Jesus in the 17th century, are an oasis of calm in the bustling city centre. This regal residence was built in 1516 for the then Mayor of Antwerp, Aert van Liere. Antwerp stood at that moment on the threshold of its golden age, as this exquisite building in the Brabant Gothic style testifies.
The recommended hotels are all easily accessible by foot or by public transport and not very far from the congress venue. More information about the venue and hotel bookings, can be found at the practical information.
The Congress
The Congress will be opened for registration on Thursday 6 June 2024 at 14:00, followed at 15:00 by the presentations by the representatives of the working groups and at 16:00 by the General Assembly.
It is a great pleasure for us that the welcome ceremony will include a lecture on the topic Fairness & Transparency in Artificial Intelligence: Computer Science Insights, held by prof. dr. Toon Calders (department of Computer Science) and prof. ir. dr. David Martens (dept. Engineering Management) both full professors at the University of Antwerp and active members of Antwerp Tax Academy.
The first day of the Congress will close with an informal get together in the entrance hall of building K.
The working sessions of the Congress will be held all day on Friday 7 June and on Saturday 8 June 2024 until noon.
Accompanying persons can participate at two magnificent guided tours on Friday 7 June 2024, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Further details regarding these tours can be found in the tab about the social programme.
In the evening of Friday, June 7, 2024, we will have dinner with all the participants in the magnificent Marble Hall located on the ground floor of the Flanders Meeting & Convention Center Antwerp (FMCCA) (Koningin Astridplein 20, 2018 Antwerp). This complex is part of the ZOO Foundation and is situated, right next to the Antwerp Central Railway Station. The dinner is fully sponsored by Tiberghien Lawyers.
In addition to the EATLP (Associate) Members, there is a limited number of seats available for interested persons to attend the Congress. We especially welcome doctoral students, post-doc fellows and other academics to attend the Congress and we encourage everyone who is interested to apply as soon as possible.
