Sightseeing

The Red Star Line Museum close to the venue, offers free tickets for Media for All participants from July 5th until July 8th. Just mention “Media for All” at the reception desk. On the authentic site of the historic shipping company Red Star Line, the museum tells us the story of European emigration to America, based on personal stories of hope and dreams of the emigrants themselves. The museum invites us to reflect upon migration in the past, present and future, connecting life stories with current social issues.

A Touch of Art

Museum to Scale 1/7 is a permanent art exhibit at the University of Antwerp, that is located in the conference venue (building R). It consists of about 50 mini museum rooms, designed by as many Belgian artists. This major series was created under the impetus of art collector and dealer Ronny Van de Velde. It offers a stunning overview of the visual arts scene since the 1960s. The OPEN Expertise centre together with Rubi – the Cultural Factory of the University of Antwerp set up a prototype of an inclusive, multisensorial audioguide for some of the artworks of this exhibition. The guide provides audio description and subtitles in Dutch and in English, Flemish Sign Language, soundscapes  and for the art work of Arne Quinze there is also a poetic interpretation into Sign Language and spoken Dutch. For the works of Nadia Naveau and Marie-Jo Lafontaine artistically inspired tactile artworks were created as well. The guide was developed as a research project in close collaboration with a diverse team of experts, users, artists and researchers.

We are proud to present you the première of this project, on the ground floor and the first floor of the R-building in the Lange Winkelstraat, freely accessible from 8h to 18h.
