I could not have made a better decision to choose the University of Antwerp as the destination for my Erasmus exchange. I did not realise how big of an impact it would have on my future.

"It was a choice driven by the University's renowned reputation for academic excellence, particularly in the field of European and international law, coupled with its vibrant student community and convenient location at the very heart of Europe. Antwerp simply ticked all the boxes.

Immersing myself in a different academic and cultural setting in Antwerp was pivotal for my academic and personal growth which helped me clarifying my career direction towards European law. A year later, I returned at the University as a PhD researcher and teaching assistant. Although my academic journey was not always smooth, I took these challenges as opportunities for growth. By actively engaging with faculty members and fellow researchers, pushing the agenda for further internationalisation, seeking guidance and support from the best promotor I could have had, I solidified my academic position and developed resilience and adaptability, vital skills for my future endeavours. Thanks to the local and international colleagues, I also built a broad network and balanced academic pursuits with personal well-being, all crucial for my PhD’s success. I am extremely grateful for having been able to keep my ties with the University and to give back to the academic community in my capacity as a visiting professor at the Faculty of Law.

Ultimately, my experience at the University of Antwerp equipped me with the right tools and skills for a fulfilling professional journey, especially when shaping my career as a civil servant at the EU institutions. For me, Antwerp still ticks all the boxes."
