Candidater Honorary Doctorate for General Merit 2026
Each year, UAntwerp awards an Honorary Doctorate for General Merit to a person or organisation who has made an exceptional contribution to society. For 2026, every member of our academic community (students and staff) can help decide who receives this honour.
We are looking for candidates (individuals or organisations):
- who are recognised for their high moral authority
- with strong national and/or international influence
- with significant achievements that are either:
- of exceptional social importance, or
- comparable in quality to those required for an honorary doctorate for scientific merit
- who symbolise at least one element of UAntwerp’s mission and core values
Put simply: we’re looking for people or organisations, national or international, who have made a remarkable difference in social or cultural domains.

- Any student or staff member may submit a nomination, along with a brief motivation.

- The deadline is 15 July 2025
