Incoming exchange students

How do I apply?

Does your university have an exchange agreement (Erasmus or other programs) with University of Antwerp? Then you can apply to study one or two semesters at our faculty as an exchange student.

The faculty of Arts is welcoming exchange students who obtained at least 60 credits.

Please talk to the International Office of your home university first and see what your options are. Then have a look at the general information for exchange students on our International Relations Office's website.

The Faculty of Arts comprises 5 departments:

  • History
  • Linguistics and Literature (including Film and Theater Studies)
  • Multilingual Professional Communication
  • Applied Language Studies / Translator-Interpreter
  • Philosophy

Before applying for an exchange, please ask your home university with which of these departments an agreement has been signed. If there is an agreement between your home department and our Faculty’s department, try to find out if the study programme we offer allows you to find suitable courses for one or two semesters. If this is the case, you can start your application.

How do I choose my study programme?

Normally, exchange students are expected to take courses of the study programme of the corresponding department (e.g. history students take courses of the history department). If the offer does not cover enough credits, you are allowed to complete your study programme with courses of other departments (or even of another UAntwerp faculty).

The general language of instruction is Dutch. If you have a good knowledge of Dutch (B2 / C1) you are allowed to take courses taught in that language during your exchange semester. An overview of all programmes and their courses is available on the Dutch website.

All other students will have restricted access to our study programme according to their language competences: English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, or Chinese. Have a look at the overview of all non-Dutch courses.

Apart from the language of instruction, each course has specific pre-requisites (specific competences before the start of the course). Please check out these course pre-requisites by clicking on the course title in the overview. Take into account that bachelor students will not be allowed to take courses at master’s level.
