The Center for Molecular Imaging Antwerp (MICA) of the Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences, is looking for a full-time (100%) radiochemist/radiopharmacist in the field of preclinical radioligand development for neurosciences.
Position
- You will conduct research activities within the Molecular Imaging Center Antwerp (MICA), focusing on implementation of radioligands for neuroscience biomarkers.
- Project overview: The group has extensive expertise in the development of radiolabeled ligands implicated in human diseases, with applications in molecular imaging techniques such as PET and SPECT. For the past 10+ years we have performed exploratory biomarker development in a neurological orphan disease. We now enter the phase where novel therapies can be evaluated in longitudinal preclinical models with those accompanying biomarkers, always focusing on clinical translatability.
- Role and responsibilities: We are seeking an (experienced) radiochemist to join our team. The successful candidate’s key tasks include:
- Supervising the team of lab techs performing the cyclotron-based productions of validated tracers;
- Implementing novel tracers based on cold chemistry provided precursors;
- Suggesting novel implementation routes for existing tracers to optimize robustness, yield and purity for enhanced throughput;
- Collaborating closely with the preclinical and clinical imaging teams within the group;
- Contributing to scientific publications, reports, and presentations at internal meetings and at international conferences;
- Ensuring regular internal reporting and communication to the Radiopharmacy Leadership Team.
Profile
- You hold a doctoral degree (PhD) in radiochemistry, radiopharmacy or a related field.
- Hands-on experience with tracer implementations, optimizations, validation and translation.
- Being an entrepreneur, pragmatic and independent, taking responsibility for your tracer implementations and their consecutive results.
- At meetings be solutions-oriented and constructive.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment.
- Excellent scientific writing and communication skills in English.
- Your research qualities are in line with the faculty and university research policies.
- You act with attention to quality, integrity, creativity and cooperation.

- Your gross monthly salary is calculated according to the pay scale for a principal research fellow in the Contract Research Staff category (Dutch: Bijzonder Academisch Personeel, BAP).
- You will receive ecocheques, Internet-connectivity allowance, a group insurance, an income protection insurance, and a bicycle allowance or a full reimbursement of public transport costs for commuting.
- You will do your work in the Laboratories of Radiopharmacy and MICA at campus Drie Eiken of the University of Antwerp in a dynamic and stimulating working environment.
