The Department of Engineering Management in the Faculty of Business and Economics is looking for a full-time (100%) doctoral scholarship holder or postdoctoral researcher in the field of circular value chain modelling and optimisation.
Position
- You will work actively on the preparation and defence of a PhD thesis/Postdoc grant application in the field of circular value chain modelling and optimisation. With the development of generic value chain models, we aim to facilitate the development and implementation of cost-effective and environmentally friendly supply chains. The focus here is on the development of a decision support tool in collaboration with industry.
- You will publish scientific papers related to the research project.
- You take on a limited set of teaching and research support tasks within the Engineering Management Department.
- You contribute to ongoing research projects on techno-economic and techno-sustainability assessments and to the operation of the EnvEcon research group and the Flanders Make End-to-End Core lab.
- Postdoc: You assist in supervising PhD students and other team members.
Profile
- You hold a Master degree in business engineering, operations research, engineering science, or similar; or you will have obtained it by the time you start to work.
- You can demonstrate excellent study results.
- Your teaching competences are in line with the University of Antwerp’s educational vision.
- Your research qualities are in line with the faculty and university research policies.
- You act with attention to quality, integrity, creativity and cooperation.
- Affinity or experience with circular economy and/or sustainability engineering would be a plus.
- We explicitly encourage people with interest in or experience with quantitative methods (such as modelling and/or programming) to apply.
- PhD position: You have a master's degree in business administration, operations research, engineering sciences or similar; or you will have obtained it by the time you start work.
- Postdoc position: You have a PhD in applied economics or (applied) engineering sciences, or similar; or you will have obtained it by the time you start work.
- You speak and write English fluently
- Interest in production processes and the manufacturing sector is a plus.
- You have an interest in sustainable development and the transition to a more sustainable society.
- You have an interest in cleantech and environmental technology.
- Experience in acquiring funding and project coordination is a plus.
What we offer
- PhD: We offer a PhD fellowship for a period of 1 year; this term can be extended to a maximum of 4 years after positive evaluation.
- Postdoc: We offer a position for a period of 1 year, with possible extension of 1 year. We will look together at options to extend the contract (after positive evaluation).
- Your monthly scholarship amount is calculated according to the scholarship amounts on the pay scales for Contract Research Staff (Dutch: Bijzonder Academisch Personeel, BAP).
- You will receive ecocheques, Internet-connectivity allowance, and a bicycle allowance or a full reimbursement of public transport costs for commuting.
- You will work at the University of Antwerp Stadscampus in a dynamic and stimulating working environment.
