The Global Health Institute of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at University of Antwerp (UAntwerp) is looking for a

full-time (100%) Statistical Programmer

The Global Health Institute's (GHI) mission is to conduct research aimed at improving the health of people worldwide, build capacity for global health research and engage in the implementation and evaluation of evidence-based interventions for health problems in low- and middle-income countries. Research activities cover different areas such as reproductive health, chronic disease management, (neglected) infectious diseases and vaccine-preventable diseases (www.uantwerpen.be/en/rg/global-health-institute).

Background

Emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases such as mpox and Ebola continue to pose major public health threats for many countries and have disproportionately affected the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Vaccines are considered as a key public health intervention in the management of disease outbreaks. Generating evidence through clinical trials that are locally relevant and scientifically rigorous is essential to move developed vaccines to licensure in different populations.

As sponsor of several vaccine trials in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Global Health Institute is expanding its statistical and programming capacity to support high-quality clinical research. We are therefore seeking an enthusiastic Statistical Programmer to contribute to the analysis, reporting, and interpretation of data generated from vaccine and infectious disease studies.

Position

• Independently develop, validate, document, and troubleshoot statistical programs in R and/or SAS for clinical studies, vaccine trials, periodic reports, and ad hoc analyses.
• Create, maintain, and validate analysis and submission datasets, including SDTM and ADaM datasets, in compliance with CDISC standards and applicable regulatory guidance.
• Develop study-specific SDTM and ADaM dataset checks and perform independent quality control from raw data to analysis datasets for primary and key secondary endpoints.
• Develop programs to generate analysis datasets, data listings, tables, figures, and graphs for interim analyses, final analyses, clinical study reports, scientific publications, and conference presentations.
• Deliver programming results for ad hoc analysis requests and support statistical analyses throughout the study lifecycle.
• Collaborate with statisticians, epidemiologists, data managers, clinicians, and investigators regarding study design, data quality, and interpretation of results.
• Collaborate with data management teams to ensure appropriate data collection, data quality, and reporting.
• Develop programming tools, reusable functions, macros, templates, and departmental standards to improve efficiency, reproducibility, and quality.
• Participate in study team meetings and support statistical and operational activities.
• Analyze safety, immunogenicity, effectiveness, and other clinical endpoints from vaccine and infectious disease studies.
• Contribute to research reports, manuscripts, conference presentations, and communications with internal and external stakeholders.
• Provide statistical programming support for vaccine studies conducted in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and other low- and middle-income countries.

Profile

• Master's degree in Biostatistics, Statistics, Epidemiology, Data Science, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field.
• At least 2-5 years of experience in statistical programming within clinical research, public health research, pharmaceutical research, CROs, or academic settings.
• Proficiency in R and/or SAS for data manipulation, statistical analyses, and reporting.
• Good understanding of clinical and epidemiological studies and knowledge of ICH Good Clinical Practice guidelines.
• Experience with statistical methods, sample size calculations, and the analysis of clinical study data.
• Experience with CDISC standards (SDTM and ADaM) and electronic data capture systems such as REDCap.
• Experience generating Tables, Listings, and Figures.
• Experience in vaccine trials, infectious diseases, or global health research is an advantage.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills, with attention to detail and the ability to work with large datasets.
• Ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary and international research teams, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
• Excellent knowledge of English. Knowledge of French and/or Dutch is considered an asset.
• Experience working in low- and middle-income countries, particularly in Africa, is considered an advantage.
• Willingness to travel occasionally to (remote) study sites in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and other sub-Saharan African countries.

Reporting

You will report to and be supervised by a lead project manager at the University of Antwerp, who has a direct functional link with the Principal Investigators of the clinical trial.

What we offer

• Working in an intellectually stimulating, international and interdisciplinary research environment, with room for personal initiative;
• A fixed-term contract of 12 months for 1 FTE position with a possibility of extension pending funding;
• Start date: ASAP or 1 September 2026 at the latest;
• You will receive a gross monthly salary within pay band 7.1-9.1 of the pay scales of the Administrative and Technical Staff. Your entry-level grade depends on your relevant professional experience. More information on our pay scales and other benefits can be found here on our website.
