The damaged collection of the Rijkshandelshogeschool Antwerpen.

This subcollection stems from the former Rijkshandelshogeschool Antwerpen are kept separately because they are so-called ‘brittle books’. Most of these were printed in the 19th century, a period of time where they did not produce books with longevity in mind: the paper almost literally crumbles in your hands now. But at the same time these books are often very rare editions about economic development and trade, travel literature, maritime literature, mostly about Belgium, France, Congo and Germany. Due to the unique character and in order to keep these books in a controlled environment, this collection is housed at the Special Collections.

The collection consists of roughly 10.000 titles and they date back to between the early 19th century to the 1970s.
