The collection of modern preciosa consists of bibliophile editions, facsimiles, art books and other valuable books from the university collection. What we mean here when we say ‘valuable’, is not necessarily a monetary expression. Everything that is unique or rare because of handwritten assignments or a limited issue production, is eligible to be kept as preciosa. For example, the art books that are bought by the university commission Kunst op de Campus (Art on Campus) are kept in this collection too.
Originally, a substantial collection of art books was started and maintained by head librarian Jo Van Brabant (1926-2001). The collection continues to grow until the present day: former head librarian Trudi Noordermeer also kept supplying this collection with various artist's books.
