We held a consultation and feedback session with stakeholders who actively participated in elaborating the University of Antwerp’s ‘Action Plan for Global Engagement and Cooperation with Africa, Asia, Latin-America’. The purpose of the meeting was to provide information about and to discuss the actions that are planned (implementation) – where do we stand, how do we proceed.
In 2021 and 2022, several groups worked on updating the university’s strategy including the creation of a Global Engagement Action Plan (formerly known as University Development Cooperation) and a 5-year VLIR-UOS Global Minds project related to this. The renewed strategy is in line with our tradition of solidarity and cooperation with the ‘Global South’, while also considering the current systemic challenges faced by humanity and the planet. These challenges make us all ‘developing countries’ in our search for sustainable transformations and they compel us to positively embrace global diversity and the equitable decolonised exchange of knowledge.
