Creative activity | Delicia Kifu | USOS
18 March | 18:00-20:00
In this creative activity, participants explore how racism affects a person’s inner world through art and fiction. The session combines reflection, creativity and dialogue, creating a safe space to share and explore feelings, beliefs and experiences.
The session starts with selected clips from the animated series The Boondocks, which portrays a wide range of responses to racism and identity — from outspoken and confrontational to conformist or questioning. These clips form the basis for a group discussion on how people experience racism and social inequality in different ways, and which forms of inequality participants recognise in their own lives.
Next, each participant selects a character from the series, based on a predefined profile, and visualises that character’s inner world in a painting. In their artwork, participants use symbols, colours and shapes to express emotions, thoughts, roots and experiences related to racism. In this way, art becomes a tool for exploring how racism shapes identity and self-image.
During the final session, participants present their work to one another. They listen to each other’s stories, share insights, and reflect together on the impact of racism on individuals and communities. The session concludes with a discussion on how realistic their chosen character’s attitude is within society, and what this reveals about the ways people deal with racism in everyday life.
