Reflection & dialogue session | Dominique Mertens

22 May | 13:00-16:00

An academic context is not exempt from societal inequalities such as racism and discrimination. Team Diverity & Inclusion offers a safe reflection and dialogue session for staff members and PhD researchers who are experiencing (or have experienced) racism or ethnic and cultural discrimination in the workplace

During the session, we create an environment where participants can:

  • share personal experiences in a safe and respectful setting. By sharing experiences, we make visible what often remains unseen. We take time to reflect on everyday forms of racism and on what it means to navigate these experiences within the academic world.
  • find recognition and understanding for the impact of these experiences;
  • connect with colleagues who have faced similar situations;
  • The responsibility for racism never lies with the person who experiences it. Still, we want to offer you tools to explore how you can navigate experiences of racism — before, during, and after they occur — in ways that feel safe and that respect your boundaries and needs.

This session does not place responsibility for addressing racism on the participants. Instead, it focuses on creating a supportive space in a small group where experiences can be shared and heard.
