Hormones shape how we feel, focus, and perform—yet they’re rarely discussed in the workplace. From the menstrual cycle and pregnancy to (peri)menopause, these life stages can bring challenges but also untapped strengths.

In this inspiring session, biologist and Senior University Teacher Anneke Valk revealed how hormones influence energy, emotions, and behavior—and how individuals and workplaces can adapt to unlock vitality and reduce absenteeism. She gave relatable insights, practical strategies, and a fresh perspective that benefits everyone: women, men, and teams alike.

Focus groups

During 2026-2027, the Diversity & Inclusion Team will organise one or more focus groups on the impact of the hormonal cycle, menstruation, pregnancy, and (peri)menopause in the workplace. These focus groups will take place in a safe and supporting setting and are open to staff members and doctoral researchers at UAntwerp. The insights gathered will be used to inform the development of future policies and actions in this area.
